One Cybersecurity Alum's Journey from Customer Support to Systems Support
By The Fullstack Academy Team

While some Cybersecurity bootcamp students enroll after building experience in the subject area, most are beginners. That’s why the Fullstack Academy Cybersecurity Bootcamp begins with basic principles and moves through progressively advanced topics—with career success support built into the program so students graduate job-ready.
Cybersecurity Bootcamp alum Carnesia Jackson enrolled with limited experience in tech. Although she encountered obstacles in her cybersecurity journey, Jackson overcame them all with grit and tenacity to become a CompTIA Security+ Certified Systems Support Specialist at Coast Professional, Inc. in a matter of months.
Her story highlights both the comprehensive nature of the bootcamp and the determination of its successful students.
At the beginning, Jackson wasn’t sure what to expect from her bootcamp journey. While well-versed in standard digital tools, she had little experience in information security or system architecture. Still, she was eager to learn:
“I’ve always had an interest in technology, especially computers, and a drive to know more about them.” recalls Jackson.
This drive continually fed her resolve to successfully complete bootcamp. Even though Jackson sometimes felt like she was falling behind in class, she never gave up. Eventually, she knew she had to ask for help to get the most out of her learning experience.
At Fullstack Academy, we often hear from students that they had been reluctant to reach out for support at the onset of bootcamp. Another thing we often hear from students, though, is that once they do ask for help, they are immediately glad they did!
That’s why instructional support and skills reinforcement are built into every Fullstack Academy tech bootcamp. Designed to be accessible for all learners, instructional support includes regular office hours and the ability to make 1-on-1 appointments with members of the instructional team. Plus, students have the opportunity to learn from each other while applying their newfound skills through group projects and challenges.
Between comprehensive live online instruction, peer and professional learning support, and career success services, bootcamp students are never alone in their learning. Jackson’s advice to prospective students is to make use of these services early and often. Put simply, she states:
“Reach out to your classmates, ask questions, and meet with your instructors!”
It may not always feel this simple, but achievement in bootcamp and beyond is often just a matter of reaching out. In fact, former bootcamp graduates in both coding and cybersecurity recommend pursuing a bootcamp primarily for the support they received in becoming job-ready.
