Cybersecurity Bootcamp Student Projects: Mitigating Cyberthreats

    Cybersecurity Student Projects

Cybersecurity is an ever-evolving field, requiring professionals to apply their knowledge and skills to thwart new cyber threats. In the Fullstack Academy Cybersecurity Bootcamp, students complete a Capstone Project to demonstrate what they’ve learned and offer real-world solutions to potential cyberattacks. The Capstone Project also enables aspiring cyber professionals to build a portfolio and showcase their expertise to potential employers. Below are a few cybersecurity projects completed and presented by bootcamp students.

    1. Cybersecurity Bootcamp Project Idea: Penetration Testing Simulation

In this project, the students simulated performing penetration tests to expose the vulnerabilities of a fake company’s environment. They imitated using a phishing email to trick users into downloading and running a malicious Python script. The student team then created a report detailing the weaknesses and presented recommendations to improve protocols for protecting against real-world threats.

    2. Cybersecurity Bootcamp Project Idea: Dance Studio Security Vulnerabilities

In this capstone project, cybersecurity students focused on assessing the vulnerabilities at the fictional “Academy West Dance Studio”. Using Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), they identified critical weaknesses, such as the accidental exposure of personal information. They proposed a plan to improve security, reduce risks, and educate employees about cybersecurity best practices. The goal of the project was to help protect the studio's digital assets against potential cyber threats.

    3. Cybersecurity Bootcamp Project Idea: Virtual SIEM Analysis

In this capstone project, the student team simulated real-world cyberattacks to identify vulnerabilities and potential threats. They used a NIST Cybersecurity Framework to guide the analysis and provided practical recommendations to mitigate risks. They also used geospatial analysis to visualize attack patterns globally. The student team created a controlled environment with a virtual machine, implemented a SIEM solution in Azure to collect and analyze log data, and demonstrated how to pinpoint the locations of live attacks.
